my coat hangers are so hard to cut with wire cutters. also they are silver colour not a bronze colour like the ones in the vid. am i using the wrong type of coat hangers?

In anyone cares I used regular copper (split open regular electrical wire and used the copper in there) and the signal for all 4 HD channels was higher versus the one I made with coat hangers.

The movement to kill free, over-the -air TV service has never been as intense as it is right now. It emanates from Washington D.C., not into it. this impacts our very political system- you can’t have a healthy democracy without freely accessible news and information to inform the citizenry. Please write, email or phone Congress!!! Don’t let them strip one more right from us!!! When it’s gone, it won’t be back. I do NOT want free TV, to die!

This works anywhere, as long as your T.V. has a H.D. tuner.

I build it just like the video described, I live in BC, Canada and get Global, CBC, and CTV all in HD (1080i). No Joke, I was skeptical at 1st but now I’m blown away at the results!!!!! Especially since I don’t pay for any cable, Just have an HD TV for my PS3 and torrent downloads.

Didn’t work for me unfortunately. About the same reception as a basic cheap loop antenna from bestbuy. Oh well.

search for 300/75 ohm transformer or uhf/vhf transformer. Theyre cheap enough you shouldnt have to ebay it though. Like he said radio shacks got em, places like kmart/best buy/circuit city/target are bound to have em too. if youre spending more than like 8 bucks youre getting the wrong thing.

I cant see that it would effect anything as long as the acrylic didnt interrupt the cleaned contacts. and as long as whatever box/flowers didnt have a lot of conductive parts (especially not large flat conductive parts, like coating or foil)

Im latin … so not everything is so convincing . Out of the blue i decided to make this easy product because the antenna that i bought was a waste of my money . TRUST me , free is the way to be lol …

Wow! I used some old 14 gauge electrical wire instead of coat hangers, but the result was amazing. I went from two channels with my DTV antenna to TWENTY with this one. Also since I had all the stuff I needed in my garage it didn’t cost me a nickle. Thanks!

You forgot one thing for “Dummies.” Those old clothes hangars that are brown & gold look like they don’t have a coating on them but they do, so they still have to be cleaned off shiny in the centre even though it looks like not.

Another question for dummies is, “what if you wanted to paint it with acrylic, hang it on the wall, &/or surround it in the centre with plastic flowers and then cover the outside with a plexiglass box or something? Would that significantly reduce its effectiveness?

Great antenna for cheap! We built this one only we used 12 gauge copper wiring and now we get all channels crisp and clear plus a couple more that we never could pick up before. All for less than $6 in materials. A must for all those who wish to beat the cable company crooks.

You are wrong buddy, you can get HiDef from over the air signal. I am getting that right now. This all changed recently since the government started out the new program forcing TV stations to change. Look it up on the net and you will see.

i can’t find the balun transformer on ebay

This is SOOO crazy!! I was super skeptical about this, but decided to give it a shot today. I can’t believe it immediately pulled in 31 channels (14 HD, and 17 SD). That’s even with it just sitting beside the TV like the guy in video… once I manuevre it around a bit I hope to get more.

I did change a few things… used ABS plastic piping instead of wood and used bare copper single strand wire instead of coat hangers. Still looks hideous but so does my $80/month cable bill
